From a Vision to a Trusted Credit Union
Buoho St. Francis Co-operative Credit Union began after a Pastoral Council meeting held at the Monastery in Jamasi. It was officially established on Sunday 13th April 2008 under the initial name St. Francis Catholic Credit Union.
During the meeting, the Konongo Mampong Diocese encouraged parishes to introduce business initiatives to support the church financially. The secretary of St. Francis Catholic Church suggested introducing a Credit Union system to help both the church and its members improve their financial strength.
The Bishop, Most Rev. Osei Bonsu, instructed all Parishes and Rectorates to initiate practical projects. Present at the meeting were:
Mr. Agyeman Duah
Church President
Charles Owusu
Vice President
Mr. Eric Okrah Danteh
Financial Secretary
Mr. Agyeman Duah
Church President
Christian Adu-Poku
Secretary
Initial interest in registration was slow until after church elections when Mr. Charles Owusu became Church President. One Sunday, after Mass, he stepped forward to register himself, his wife and his business. This action encouraged many others, leading to over 100 people registering that same day. The Secretary and his wife became the 71st and 42nd members of the union.
